Overview
Silver is an incredibly common ore found in the majority of the mines used to upgrade things in your base (mainly the storage). It's best to not take more than you need because it will take a large chunk of time to mine all the silver you see. Instead, using the market is a good method of farming large loads of silver without taking much time, since it can offer you a lot. This method is also good for other common ore such as Copper, Iron and Coal.
